What a 4-day Copenhagen trip actually looks like
Copenhagen is a city that makes you want to move here. The cycling infrastructure, the waterfront swimming, the coffee culture, the food scene — everything works. It's compact, walkable, and has more Michelin stars per capita than almost anywhere.
Four days covers Nyhavn, Tivoli, Christiania, the food scene, and a day trip to Louisiana Museum or Malmö across the bridge.

Essential Copenhagen trip planning tips
Good planning makes Copenhagen feel effortless. Here's what actually matters.
Rent a bike immediately
Copenhagen is Europe's best cycling city. Rent a bike on day one and use it for everything. Donkey Republic app or hotel rentals are cheapest.
Copenhagen Card
The Copenhagen Card (from €60/48hrs) covers 80+ museums, Tivoli, and all public transport. Worth it if you're doing 3+ attractions per day.
Lunch over dinner
High-end restaurants offer lunch menus at half the dinner price. A €40 lunch at a Michelin spot is Copenhagen's best-value splurge.
Cashless city
Copenhagen runs on cards and mobile pay. Many places don't accept cash at all. Bring a card with no foreign transaction fees.
Layer up
Even in summer, Copenhagen can be cool and windy. Pack layers and a light rain jacket. June–August averages 18–22°C.
Harbour swimming
The harbour is clean enough to swim in — Islands Brygge pools are free and open June–September. Bring a towel and join the locals.

Copenhagen trip planning – frequently asked questions
How many days do you need in Copenhagen?
Three days covers the highlights — Nyhavn, Tivoli, Christiania, and the food scene. Four days adds Louisiana Museum or a Malmö day trip. More than five and you might combine it with a wider Scandinavia trip.
Is Copenhagen expensive?
Yes — it's one of Europe's priciest cities. A restaurant meal is €25–40, a beer €8–10. Budget €150–200/day. But museums are often free, harbour swimming is free, and cycling is free. The Copenhagen Card helps a lot.
What's the best time to visit Copenhagen?
June to August for the longest days (sunlight until 10pm), outdoor swimming, and Tivoli Gardens. September is quieter and still pleasant. Winter is dark and cold but has great hygge atmosphere, Christmas markets, and lower prices.
